Chevrolet Avalanche full-size SUV is a four-door, five or six passenger with an open bed in back as opposed to the normally covered, wagon-like cargo compartment. The name Avalanche derives from the dangerous and sudden collapse of mountain snowpacks known as the avalanche.
With the General Motors-exclusive Midgate™ Avalanche can change from a six passenger SUV to a full size pick-up with a seating for three and an eight foot long protected cargo box. Another kind of transformation occurs with the standard FlexFuel 310 hp 5.3L and 366 hp 6.0L VVT Vortec V8 engines. Both enhance fuel efficiency with Active Fuel Management ® and, new for 2009, a six-speed automatic transmission with two fuel-saving overdrive gears.
